About 500,000 eligible Mainers will start receiving $300 affordability checks later this month.

The checks will go out to full-time Maine residents who filed a 2025 tax return.

Recipients need to have an adjusted gross income of less than $100,000 for married couples, less than $75,000 if filing as a head of household, or less than $50,000 if single or filing separately.

The money is intended to help Mainers who are struggling with the rising cost of living.

The $155 million program taps into the state’s rainy day fund.
